We teach that honest, open engagement brings healing and reconciliation, and we encourage thoughtful, soul-searching dialogue when discrimination against one class of individuals enters broader social debate. It does not harm members of a majority group to gain understanding of the lived reality of members of a minority group: to the contrary, empathy and self-examination are virtues.
